Herbivore, Carnivore, Omnivore: here is a great hands-on activity to help your child get the concept of consumers. Bonus you can do this at snack time, and they can eat the foods afterwards
Materials
- 3 paper plates
- marker
- veggies (broccoli, celery, peppers, etc)
- meats (lunch meat or chicken etc)
- toy animal/ people figurines (lion, giraffe, horse, rabbit, monkey, pig, alligator, people, etc)
Consumers Activity
- Label each paper plate with a type of consumer: Herbivore, Carnivore, Omnivore.
- Place the veggies on the herbivore plate and discuss with child.
- Place meats on the carnivore plate and discuss.
- Place both veggies and meat on the omnivore plate.
- Then bring out the animals and have child try to sort them around the plate they would eat. See below for examples. You may have different toy figurines, so do a google search to figure out ones that are specific to you.
- Eat your snacks 🙂
