I love how these first 2 weeks of cycle 1 we have our children learn the 10 commandments. It gives us such a solid foundation of who God is and what we believe before we start talking about other religions later in the year. This craft is simple, but helps reinforce this week’s memory work.
Materials
- Brown paper bag
- Bible
- Marker
- Scissors
Make the Tablets
- Cut out the “tablets” of the 10 Commandments out of the paper bag. I made them big, using 1 whole side of the paper bag for 1 tablet.
- Help the child find the 10 commandments in the Bible in Exodus 20. This will help them understand where we get these commandments from.
- Write out the Commandments 1-5 on the first tablet (week 1). Then save writing out commandments 6-10 on the second tablet for next week. Some younger kids will need help writing them out, or they can recite them to you and you can write them.
- Discuss how our memory work is a summary of what is actually written in the Bible.
- Crumple up the “tablets” and then unfold again. Now your have your 10 commandments.
